THE SPEAKER: Rev Benjamin Arhinful is the Head Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church Int, Tarkwa (Tamso Branch). He is a great man of God who is known for his wonderful sermons which transforms lives. He gives hope to the hopeless.
As Christians, so many
people have done their part to bring the church this far. Most at times, we
tend to forget the sacrifices and efforts past generations showed to raise the
church.
What you enjoy today didn’t just occur. Someone stood firm and made a
bold decision sometime ago. Now those individuals are not around and the mantle
has been thrown to you and I.
The question is, are you honouring their efforts
or did they sacrifice in vain? Something has been passed on to you and in order to
effectively maintain or improve it, you need to know how the creators or the beginners
took care and managed it.
The following highlights some salient behaviour
patterns our great men were known for.
.
LESSONS FROM OUR FORE
FATHERS
1. Obedience
One very important trait of our fore fathers
is their spirit of obedience. As a Christian, you need not to question the word
of God but rather let it direct your path.
Most at times we obey God when we
are in trouble. We want everything to be favourable before we do what we are
asked. To grow higher in Christ and be successful in life, you need to
sacrifice your pride and obey the Lord.
Gen 22:12
And He said, Do not lay your hand on the lad or
do anything to him; for now I know that you fear and revere God, since you have
not held back from Me or begrudged giving Me your son, your only son.
2. Holiness
For God has not called us for impurity, but in
holiness.
The devil is always active. Seeking ways and
means to make you go against your God. In recent times sin has the nicest
package. One may enter into sin without recognizing it. Due to this, as Christians we need to watch and
pray.
Because the moment you stop watching, you stop seeing. And that is the
moment the enemy will trick you. Move away from anything that will dirty your
white garment as a Christian. Whatever you do. Ask yourself that if God should descend
that moment, will you be saved?
Daniel 1:8
But
Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself by [eating his
portion of] the king's rich and dainty food or by [drinking] the wine which he
drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might [be
allowed] not to defile himself
3. Faith
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and
certain of what we do not.
Faith is a necessity in every Christian’s life.
Faith is about not having what you seek for but still believe God will do it. Most
often than not, so many Christians achieve so little in life because the lose
faith especially when his or her proposal has delayed in materializing.
God answers in three ways. He can say no. That is when what you want is not
what you need in life. God can also say wait for a while. This is because what
you seek is more advantageous in the future than today. And finally God answers yes, when
the time is right for you to get what you asked for.
God knows best. Always believe
in God even if it take your whole life to wait, be patient and only look up to the most high God. He created you and He has
a plan for your life. Before you step into tomorrow, he has already been there.
Have faith in he who controls everything. He will change things to your favour you when the time is right.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because
anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those
who earnestly seek him.
4. Prayer
You cannot go to the battle field without a
weapon. You won’t survive. As a Christian, the mere existence of you is a
threat to the enemy. Day in, day out the devil is trying very hard to bring you
down.
It is through prayers a Christian can fight his way out in life because it
is your sword. Always remember that time spent praying is never lost. When you
pray, you open closed doors in your life. You need to increase not decrease
because the God you serve is a God of increase.
Don’t sit there and allow the
enemy the take anything from you before you begin to pray. Protect what you
have now. Keep praying and never stop because the devil is always at work
1 Thessalonians 5: 17
Pray without ceasing
5. Study
the word of God
As a Christian, you need to study the word of
God day and night. It is the word of God that builds you up. It makes you
prepared to face the devil. Prayer is the sword but if you don’t have any skill
about using a sword, it cannot be put to full use. If you are supposed to pray
without season, then you need to read the scripture all the time.
Equip yourself
with the word of God and fight with prayer. Both prayer and the study of the bible work together. The elimination
of one does not complete the process.
Before you take a decision on something,
you need to ask one question. which is; what does the bible say? If the book of
wisdom (bible) speaks against what you are planning to do then you need to advise
yourself. So if you don’t read the bible, how can you know what it says?
This Book of the Law shall not depart
from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be
careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make
your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
DEMONSTRATE THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
It is not enough to just have the Holy Spirit.
Let the power of the Holy Spirit show. With the Holy Spirit in you, you must do
great things.
And when they had prayed, the place in which they
were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy
Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
But ye shall receive power,
after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me
both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost
part of the earth.
